The sun is a major cause of premature skin aging such as wrinkles, dry skin and age spots. No matter what your age, it's important to protect yourself against the sun. Avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, if possible. The sun's damaging rays (called ultraviolet or "UV" rays) are the strongest between 10 AM and 3 PM. Stay inside, or at least in the shade. Apply sunscreen, being careful to choose one with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15, and follow directions carefully. UV rays can pass through clouds and reflect off of concrete and even snow, so be sure to wear sunscreen every day. Remember to apply to the areas that you tend to miss such as your ears, hands and feet. Wear protective clothing. Wear wide-brimmed hats, UV-blocking sunglasses and dark, tightly-woven fabric to reduce exposure to the sun's harmful rays.
Even with preventative care and avoidance of the sun, many of us experience sagging, loose skin and that "tired" look when we hit our late 30's and 40's. This is the result of gravity and the effects of the environment. Genetics is also a contriubuting factor. When so many of us are in careers where vibrancy counts, it is important to maintaint a youthful appearance. Today, many men and women in their 40's and 50's are in the job market, interviewing against younger candidates. Looking youthful is not only important in how we are viewed by others, but how we view ourselves. It is a well-known fact that how we look has an impact on our self-esteen and confidence. A few minor procedures can take ten or more years off our faces, giving us a competitive edge in today's job market.
Through the use of light to medium skin peels, microdermabrasion and laser treatments can keep your skin youthful and even undo some sun damage and prevent the need for more invasive treatments, including facial cosmetic surgery.
The use of creams may make your skin feel more moisturized, but the effect is not lasting. Collagen creams work only on the skin surface. A moisturizer with or without collagen cannot penetrate the skin and is not designed to be absorbed. No moisturizer can undo the cumulative effect of collagen loss. Creams primarily slow the rate of water loss from the skin, and by hydrating the skin, provide the temporary appearance of fullness.
Time inevitably takes its toll on your skin, exposure to the elements can make skin become damaged and dull. As you age and your skin incurs the abuse of daily living (such as sun, stress, pollution), the cell turnover rate slows down. This means that the new cells take longer to form and reach the top. The old cells accumulate and stay on the surface longer. You begin to notice those unwelcome signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles, freckles and age spots, uneven skin tone, loss of elasticity and loss of natural skin hydration. With todays technology there are many non-invasive treatments available.
Because each persons's skin is unique, a program must be expertly, and individually designed in order to be effective.
